Slovak doctors have found themselves as global pioneers in successfully demonstrating the treatment of drowsiness in adults with the help of virtual reality technology. In an article posted on the Denník N news website, the research of two ophthalmologists, Juraj Halička and Petr Žiak, were presented. They noted that a person who suffers from drowsiness has reduced focus and in more severe cases is not able to see objects in three dimensions. After several months of testing, they believe their virtual reality-based treatment method is effective against drowsiness in adult patients, publishing their findings at the end of June. According to Denník N, this is the first ever publication documenting the successful treatment of drowsiness with the help of virtual reality by playing games on an Oculus Rift headset. Both specialists are working at the UVEA Mediklinik as well as the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine within Comenius University, both located in Martin.
