Slovak laying hens are Fipronil free

Slovak veterinary inspectors have carried out extensive controls of Slovak farms for laying hens to investigate the possible use of preparations containing the pesticide Fipronil, finding that all birds were OK and that no Slovak farm had used it. The inspections had been carried out since the beginning of the month when the scandal of contaminated eggs spread all over Europe. Last week the National Point of Contact at the State Veterinary and Food Administration found out that a pasteurised egg mixture was supplied to four hotels in Bratislava. The minimum residual limit of Fipronil in the eggs was exceeded by more than five times. Earlier, twenty-four packages of cooked and shelled eggs imported from the Netherlands contaminated with the Fipronil pesticide were found in Vrbové (Trnava region).
