October 28th, the Anniversary of Czechoslovakia's Foundation should become a public holiday, suggests the opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party. According to the liberals, October 28 1918 is one of the most significant watersheds in the modern history of Slovakia. The State Holiday Act amendment is slated to be deliberated at Parliament's September session. In order to prevent an undue increase in the number of state holidays, SaS proposes reclassifying September 1, Constitution Day, as a commemoration day. SaS pointed out that October 28 used to be a state holiday in the erstwhile Czechoslovakia, but after the creation of the independent Slovakia in 1993, it took until 1999 to make it evena commemoration days.
