On Monday, the tenth season of the international ice-hockey Continental Hockey League starts. For the sixth time, Slovan Bratislava will be the only competing for the Gagarin Cup. This year, 27 teams will compete for the Gagarin Cup, which is two down from last season as Metallurg Novokuzneck and Medveščak Záhreb were unable to meet the financial requirements of the league. Slovan Bratislava will start its season on Wednesday in an away match against SKA Petersburg, last year's overall winner. Apart from the players in the Slovak team, only four other Slovaks will compete in the league. The regular season is scheduled to end on March 1st 2018 and the play-off no later than on April 26th.
