As many as 19,227 tourists visited the alpine environment of the Tatra National Park (TANAP) in the High Tatras on Wednesday (August 2), according to the results of the latest visitor census annually organised by the TANAP State Forest. Among the most numerous groups were Slovaks, Czechs and Poles, but there were also Hungarians, Germans, English, French and Russians. The TANAP State Forests also recorded how many tourists used a funicular railway, cable car or walked around the alpine environment on their own. Out of the monitored peaks, the highest number of tourists - 1,080 - climbed to the Rysy peak on August 2. TANAP State Forest has been keeping records on visitor numbers since 1972. The highest figure was reported in 1980 when as many as 26,520 people visited the High Tatras in a single day.
