Miroslav Lajčák: UN calls for more efficiency

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres plans to make three proposals for a UN reform during the year when Slovakia will lead the UN General Assembly. These should address the peace operations, sustainable development as well as the UN's management, like speeding up several processes and giving the organization's Secretary General more room for decision-making. At the same time, there is an ongoing process of revitalizing the General Assembly, said the Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák, who will preside the General Assembly at its 72nd session, in an interview with SITA. He noted that there are strong voices claiming that the General Assembly should have a more powerful position, because there are 193 members and everyone is equal. When asked about his upcoming assembly's presidency, Lajčák confessed that it was going to be "a different assembly indeed".
