Slovak Soldiers Leave for EUNAVFOR MED SOPHIA

The first ten Slovak military police officers from the Topoľčany police unit are leaving for the Mediterranean this week to serve in the EU mission entitled 'EUNAVFOR MED for SOPHIA'. The Slovak soldiers, forming part of a German ship's crew, will monitor Libyan shores and meet tasks related to illegal migration in this area. Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said that this kind of assistance was declared by Slovakia last year during its presidency of the Council of the EU. According to Military Police head Michal Migat, the soldiers will remain in the Mediterranean for six months and afterwards they will be replaced by another ten soldiers.
