Meteorologists issue most severe heat alert

The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute on Wednesday issued a Level 3 heat alert; most severe warning in response to the extreme temperatures expected in southwest Slovakia on Thursday and for almost the entire southern half of the country on Friday. Meteorologists are expecting temperatures to reach around 39 degrees Celsius in these areas, possibly even passing historical temperature records. The highest temperature ever recorded in Slovakia, 40.3 degrees Celsius, was measured in Hurbanovo (Nitra region) in July 2007.
