Bronze Age dagger found in Hlohovec

A unique archaeological find has occurred at the Váh River close to Hlohovec. While spending time with his friends on the banks of the river, a young high school graduate Dávid noticed a strange metal object peaking from the gravel. This turned out to be a dagger from the Bronze Age, nearly 4,000 years old. Only four such artefacts have so far been found in Slovakia with this being the first found in the Trnava region. The dagger from Hlohovec is 24.5 centimetres in length and weighs 320 grams. "It is a very rare finding, because according to historical theories, not every citizen in those times could afford such a dagger, so in fact it is a symbol of power," explains Matúš Sládok, an archaeologist from the Regional Monument Authority in Trnava.
