On Friday, August 4, the IAAF World Championship will open in London with Slovakia being represented by only five athletes. The main event of the tournament will be the career farewell of the sprinting legend Usain Bolt. Slovakia is sending to London only five athletes, smallest team since Slovakia's independence. The team will be led by hammer thrower Marcel Lomnický. For his sister, also a hammer thrower Nikola Lomnická and the sprinter Ján Volko this would be a World Championship premiere. Race-walkers Dušan Majdan (50 km) and Mária Czaková (20 km) conclude the Slovak team in London.
