Heat waves hit Slovakia

The Slovak Hydrometeorological institute has issued a warning against high temperatures applying to most of Slovakia's territory this week. In the following days, temperatures may be as high as 36 or 37 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists warn that "the high temperatures represent a potential danger regarding health, physical activities, and the spontaneous combustion of dry vegetation. This level of air temperature is rare for this time of the year and geographical location. The probability of health risks due to excessive body exhaustion is for some people very high. People should not forget to drink enough water as well as to avoid any direct sunlight around noon and in the early afternoon," reads the warning. On top of that, the city of Bratislava has also issued advice on handling the heatwave via its website, has dispatched water cisterns downtown and ordered public swimming pools to stay open until later in the evening. Similarly, citizens in the eastern Slovak city of Košice can enjoy the increased presence of water fountains.
