A financial audit in the companies of tax fraud suspect Ladislav Bašternák has allegedly found that he owes the state €9 million in taxes, wrote TASR on Sunday, citing TV Markíza. Financial Administration spokesperson Patrícia Maciková said for the TV station that "no more detailed information can be released at this stage due to tax confidentiality." Ladislav Bašternák has alleged business links to Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák and also rents a flat to Prime Minister Rober Fico. In summer 2016, after publishing suspicions in the case, protests were held calling on Kaliňák to step down and Fico to move out of the flat. "The fact that Robert Fico is staying in the flat has no moral justification," the opposition Freedom and Solidarity party reacted to the new findings in its press release on Monday. The party also asked Fico to deny a suspicion that he is the actual owner of the flat and to explain his motives for continuing to live in it.
