On Wednesday, the European Court of Justice's Advocate General, Yves Bot, recommended that the lawsuit filed by Slovakia and Hungary against the temporary migrant resettlement quota scheme should be dismissed. Back in 2015, the Slovak and Hungarian Governments challenged the decision by the Council of the European Union to relocate 120,000 persons within two years in response to the migration crisis, arguing that the EU had breached its own legislative rules when a majority of member states voted on the migration quotas. Yves Bot now stated that the EU did not overstep its powers, as Bratislava and Budapest claim, since EU treaties enable the adoption of measures to deal with clearly defined emergencies. A ruling is slated to be reached later this year.
