Yves Bot, Advocate-General of the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg, has called for the dismissal of the lawsuit lodged by Slovakia and Hungary against the 2015 mechanism for the mandatory redistribution of migrants based on quotas. Under the temporary plan, Slovakia would be required to accept 902 migrants, and Hungary 1,294. Following the ruling, the Slovak and Hungarian governments filed a suit against the decision, calling on its cancellation due to its alleged procedural errors, incorrect legal basis and it being an inappropriate response to the migration crisis. Bot, whose role is to offer legal advice for the Court in situations under his purview, rejected the arguments from Slovakia and Hungary regarding the legality of the relocation plan, with his position often indicative of the Court's final ruling.
