Storms cause damage in eastern Slovakia

An emergency situation was declared in the eastern Slovak city of Prešov at 4 p.m. on Sunday after a powerful storm swept through the city, wrote TASR, citing City Hall spokesperson Veronika Kmetóny Gazdová. Strong winds ripped off and damaged roofs on several houses and public buildings. As RTVS reported, a third degree flood alert was issued for Prešov. Emergency units have set about the clean-up work, including the installation of provisional roofing to prevent additional damage. The fire brigade is removing fallen trees and branches from a number of roads. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute issued warnings about the risk of storms for the whole of Slovakia for both Monday and Tuesday. For eastern Slovakia, storm warnings have so far been issued until Wednesday.
