Slovak and Czech war heroes remembered in UK

The Slovak Jozef Gabčík and the Czech Jan Kubiš, who assassinated Reinhard Heydrich, Reich Protector of Bohemia and Moravia during the Second World War were awarded a commemorative plaque in the village of Ightfield in Shropshire, England, RTVS reported on Sunday. Gabčík and Kubiš fled the Nazi regime with another 4,000 members of the Czechoslovak exile army and were part of a team of Czechoslovak British-trained paratroopers. Locals from Ightfield, where they lived for a while, raised £2,000 for the plaque by selling commemorative souvenirs of their act. On May 27th 1942, as part of Operation Anthropoid, they attempted to assassinate Heydrich, who died from his injuries a few days later. They were both killed by Nazis three weeks later in Prague.
