Miroslav Lajčák as UN General Assembly Chairman to focus on migration

The EU's global security strategy, the situation in North Korea as well as security and migration issues were high on the agenda of a session of EU foreign affairs ministers in Brussels on Monday. The Foreign Affairs Council at its session assessed the global security strategy adopted by the EU a year ago. Ministers evaluated the strategy positively, especially in the area of security, as there has been significant progress in NATO-EU cooperation. When addressing the topic of the migration crisis, Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák stated that he will make this topic part of his priorities when taking up the mandate of the 72nd UN General Assembly president. "Among the priorities of my mandate will be the preparation of two documents concerning migration; the compact for migration and the compact on refugees," said Lajčák, noting that both documents are set to be approved by the UN General Assembly in September 2018.
