Slovak Volko wins gold and silver at EURO U23

On Saturday, the Slovak sprinter Ján Volko won the 200m gold in a stunning performance in 20.33 seconds at the European Athletics U23 Championships in Poland, breaking both the national and the championship records. French athlete Gautier Dautremer was second and Germany's Roger Gurski was third. "Well, I didn't really expect it to be so fast," said the 20-year-old Slovak sprinter from Bratislava after the race. "It wasn't easy, as I got tired after my sixth start at the championship, but I gathered up all my endurance and effort to run as fast as possible. I consider this final to be my best performance; this was the best race of my career," he added. Volko also won the silver medal in the 100m race, reaching the time of 10.18 seconds at the same championship on Friday.
