A cultural event titled French Day, by which the French Embassy in Slovakia wants to celebrate Bastille Day, will take place this year on Bratislava's Main Square on Friday (July 14). The French Embassy's attaché Didier Rogasik told TASR that visitors will have the opportunity to relax in a virtual French village. "Twenty stands will offer French and local products. Lovers of the French language, high-quality French cosmetics, as well as travelling will come into their own," he added.
Rogasik labelled the prepared music and cultural programme to be "attractive for all those young at heart". Within the music part of the programme, visitors will have the chance to listen to the winners of the nation-wide competition 'I Sing in French', Slovak jazz singer Jana Gavačová and French band Les Garçons Trottoirs". This year's programme also features two fashion shows.
The French Institute in Slovakia will open its doors to the youngest visitors between 2-5 p.m. They will offer the possibility to play various games and deal with various activities there. The French cultural institution has published a detailed programme on its website. In addition to the French Embassy and the French Institute, organisers of the French Day celebrations include the French-Slovak Chamber of Commerce with the support of the Bratislava City Hall and the Bratislava Cultural and Information Centre (BKIS).
Bastille Day commemorates the conquest of the fortress and prison of Bastille on July 14, 1789. It signified the beginning of the French Revolution.
