Out of the total of 408 candidates for the posts of members of regional parliaments, the Smer-SD party alone has won 118 seats, according to the results of the first round of Saturday's regional elections released on Sunday by the Central Electoral Commission (UVK).
“No matter how we count it, SMER considers itself the winner of the elections,” PM Robert Fico remarked. Conversely, the situation of the former leader of the right-wing, SDKU-DS party, is different. The party lost all its positions except for Bratislava. In general, the ballot did not attract the attention of voters as merely 20.11 percent of those eligible to vote participated in the elections.
