Slovak Film about Soviet Gulag Survivors Presented in New York

The Bohemian National Hall in New York saw the premier of a Slovak documentary film 'We Survived the Gulag' on Tuesday. The film, which was made in association with the Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences and the Slovak consulate general to the U.S.A., captures the memories of the last living Slovaks who survived the Soviet gulag, recording their experiences from the moment they were arrested until their return to their homeland.

The movie includes their authentic testimonies, presenting their encounters with the deaths of their fellow inmates, and the rough underworld conditions within the camps. At the same time, it shows the sacrifices of medical staff in the gulag amidst the harsh environment. According to Slovak consul to the U.S.A. Jana Trnovcova, the film was a great success among Slovak compatriots living in New York.
