We must improve security relations, says Foreign Minister

"Recently, we are witnessing a worsening of relations and growing distrust among OSCE member states and, unfortunately, we are doing very little to stop this negative trend," said Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák in his speech to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) meeting of Foreign Ministers in Mauerbach (Austria) on Tuesday. "In a period dominated by an increase in global tension and uncertainty, we must return to the roots of this organisation, replace mutual accusations and lessons with constructive dialogue, re-examine ways and opportunities to overcome differences and different perceptions of threats. And above all, to speak together, especially in areas where our views differ. We have to stop the spiral of alienation before it completely gets out of control," added Lajčák. The deteriorating security situation in Europe, the prevention of violent extremism and encouraging dialogue around security were the main topics of the meeting.
