Slovak universities left without Eurofunds

Universities and research institutions have found themselves empty-handed, with not a single euro arriving from an allocated eurofund budget of €300 million intended for science and development. In a move which has university administration outraged, the financial package looks likely to instead be directed to projects by private companies. Rectors are asking the education sector to announce the R&D financial application process null and void, however the sector responded that the entire process is not yet complete. Education Minister Peter Plavčan should meet with academics on Wednesday to discuss the issue. Within the framework of the Euro-funded call for R&D project aid, the Ministry of Education drew €300 million. However, none of the 16 projects from the largest Slovak universities or the Slovak Academy of Sciences are among those approved.
