Project on teaching European Citizenship

The State Pedagogical Institute will cooperate on an education project aimed at European citizenship, identity and fellowship. The cooperation will also involve the Foreign and European Affairs Ministry and the civic group Education@Internet. "Educating the young citizens of the EU Member States about European citizenship, identity and the sense of belonging to a common European home is similar to national education. Therefore it should include lessons on EU history, European values, European culture, the main European religions and symbols such as the anthem, flag, emblem and languages," stated Ľudovít Hajduk, head of the institute. The aim of the organizers is to propose a discussion within the EU Council and thus obtain the support of all national education sectors to accept a common learning subject that they could introduce into the curricula of schools in EU countries.
