"Slovakia has a duty to co-operate with Russia and have excellent relations with it," Slovak Speaker of Parliament Andrej Danko of the Slovak National Party said for TA3 on Sunday. "I won't be among the politicians who denigrate Russia, quite the contrary. Russia provides huge opportunities for cooperation for us," said Danko. As TASR wrote, Slovak MEP Ivan Štefanec of the Christian Democrats disagrees. "Andrej Danko has questioned the EU's sanctions towards Russia, imposed for having unprecedentedly attacked its and our neighbour. There are no economic links which can counterbalance threats stemming from this kind of policy." said Štefanec. According to him it is not true that Slovakia needs Russia. He believes that Slovakia needs peace in Europe and the EU to develop and prosper.
