On Thursday in Brussels, Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš confirmed that Slovakia would meet the commitments it set at the summit of EU leaders in May. Next year, Slovak soldiers will be part of troops deployed in the Baltic states, most probably in Latvia under the command of Canada. At the meeting of defence ministers in Brussels, Gajdoš also indicated that Slovakia is interested in sending its unit to Iraq as well as a plan to increase investments into defence to reach the level of 1.6% of GDP by 2020. Slovak minister did not rule out an increase of the number of Slovak soldiers for the Resolute Support operation in Afghanistan.
