The US Department of State, in its annual report on global human trafficking, presented Slovakia in the group of countries which it considers to place a strong value in combatting the problem. Of the 187 countries surveyed, 35 found themselves in the first group, with Slovakia appearing alongside its neighbours the Czech Republic and Austria. Poland and Hungary were placed in the second group. The annual US Report on Human Trafficking evaluated individual countries from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017, with this year placing emphasis on punishing the crime's perpetrators.
