The general strike at Volkswagen Slovakia continues to grow in size and intensity with a Tuesday meeting between the management of the company and union leaders failing to take place. Instead, a debate between the two sides will take place on Wednesday at 15:30 in line with the twelfth round of collective bargaining. The current strike at Volkswagen Slovakia began at 6:00 on Tuesday after failed negotiations for salary increases, with unions asking for a 16 percent hike, and Volkswagen management offering 4.5 percent this year and a further 4.2 percent next year. This is the first strike in the history of the Slovak car factory, which has been operating in Slovakia since 1991.
