Deaflympics Committee’s Ex-Boss Gets 14 years in Prison

On Wednesday the Specialized Criminal Court in Banská Bystrica sentenced the former head of the Slovak Deaflympics Committee Jaromír Ruda to 14 years and six months in prison.

He has been accused of causing damage to foreign property worth at least €10 million. Ruda caused an international scandal in 2011 when Slovakia was supposed to host the Winter Deaflympics but he stole the funds allocated for the organisation. The verdict has not come into effect yet.
