Lorries providing construction materials for the construction of the new Jaguar Land Rover plant in Nitra are destroying second and third category roads, said Nitra governor Milan Belica, adding that 50-60 tonne lorries shouldn't drive on local roads at all. Around 700 lorries per day are arriving at the construction site at Nitra industrial park. "We were told that the lorries would use first category roads, but, unfortunately, that hasn't happened. This means that the state has saved money because its roads won't have to be repaired, while roads managed by local authorities have been destroyed. I think it's fair to put these roads in order," said Belica, adding that the region is ready to hold talks to this effect with the state as well as with the state-run company MH Invest, which is carrying out the construction work for Jaguar. According to MH Invest project manager Ondrej Turz, the number of lorries passing through the area should fall by the end of the year, when most of the materials will have already been transported to the site.
