The decision to scrap the so-called Mečiar amnesties has already been officially published and is thus coming into effect. As such, the final condition was met for authorities to start taking actions in the cases of the amnesties issued by Vladimír Mečiar as acting president in 1998 that also concerned the thwarted referendum of 1997 as well as the pardon granted by former president Michal Kováč [1993-98] to his own son in 1997.
