Bratislava Awarded Golden Apple for Excellence in Tourism

The city of Bratislava has received the Golden Apple award in the 'destinations' category from the World Federation of Travel Journalists and Writers (FIJET), TASR learnt on Thursday. The prize is tourism's equivalent to the Oscar awards, which salute excellence in the film industry. "This [Golden Apple] award is granted to a destination that represents a crossroads of history, culture and experience," said FIJET Slovakia president Ludmila Novacka at the awards ceremony. Bratislava has been added to the list of over 40 cities that have received the accolade since 1970. It is the first Slovak city or town to receive the Golden Apple. Over 1.2 million people visited the Slovak capital in 2016.
