Foundation stone for Prešov Bypass officially tapped

By tapping the foundation stone on Tuesday (30-5), Transport and Construction Minister Árpád Érsek (Most-Híd) and representatives of the National Highway Company (NDS) symbolically launched the construction of the Prešov West-Prešov South D1-motorway section. TASR reported that the almost eight-kilometre motorway stretch will be constructed by the D1 Prešov Consortium for over €356 million. It should be completed in four years, by June 30, 2021, and should significantly cut the time needed to drive to Košice. The new stretch will divert transit transport around the city of Prešov, with drivers saving some 18 minutes instead of having to use the old road through the city. The new stretch will include 18 bridges, a two kilometre tunnel, 17 intersections and six kilometres of anti-noise walls, and is co-financed with EU funds.
