Slovakia is joining NATO in the coalition against so-called ISIS in Iraq and Syria. At the end of the summit in Brussels, Slovak President Andrej Kiska stated: "I was happy that a joint declaration was adopted and that NATO will be fighting ISIS together, which is a very important signal." Slovakia reiterated its will to deploy soldiers in Iraq and other territories. Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš: "It seems very probable that we will be discussing our possibilities in supporting the east wing with our participation in the Canadian fighting unit in Latvia." Slovakia committed itself to allocate 1.6 percent of its GDP annually to defence by the end of 2020.
