The Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD) has been approved by a majority of EU Member State Culture Ministers, with eight representatives of EU member states opposing it. Slovakia voted for the directive, which would, among other things, regulate inappropriate and extremist content on television and social media platforms which allow video sharing, Europe-wide. The directive is still subject to approval by the European Parliament (EP). At present, there is no precise definition on what constitutes extremist content or video which is inappropriate for young people. This will be more precisely defined by the Member States in the national legislation following the adoption of the Directive. Enforcement of the resulting rules will be the responsibility of the authorities at Member State level. In Slovakia, this would be the Broadcasting and Retransmission Council.
