Justice Minister Lucia Žitňanská (Most-Híd) welcomes the fact that MPs have okayed a range of changes to the judiciary legislation, wrote TASR on Friday. According to the minister, the most important change is the improvement in the process of choosing new judges for the courts, as it currently lacks 10% of judges. At the moment, the vetting process can take up to a year, but the changes are expected to slash the 'waiting times' down to two months. Žitňanská said that the first mass selection procedures are expected to take place this winter or in the spring of 2018. This new host of changes include introducing regional judicial selection, the assessment of judges' performance by dedicated commissions and a more effective system of disciplining offending judges and others.
