'Stupavske Zele' is now protected

Sauerkraut produced in Stupava, west Slovakia - the so-called Stupavske zele - has obtained the EU's protected designation of origin (PDO). Agriculture Minister Gabriela Matecna told the media on Thursday. After 'Zitavska paprika', paprika from the Zitava area, sauerkraut from Stupava is the second Slovak food that has been added to this category. "Cabbage from Stupava is a confirmation that Slovak products are worth growing, buying and consuming," said the minister. The town's mayor Roman Maros believes that the European quality guarantee will also help to develop the growing of cabbage.
