Emmanuel Macron’s victory good news for Slovak politicians

Key Slovak politicians welcomed the election of centrist Emmanuel Macron as President of France in a contest against the right-wing National Front's Marine Le Pen on Sunday. "I believe that this choice represents a piece of good news for the European Union's future and it will allow the member states to look for ways to get closer to each other, instead of moving apart," reads a statement by Prime Minister Robert Fico provided to the TASR press agency. Slovak President Andrej Kiska sent a telegram of congratulation to the newly elected French president Emmanuel Macron, wishing him success in carrying out all tasks related to the office. "Your victory offers a happy day for all who believe in a united and strong Europe. Cooperation in the European Union based on common values is irreplaceable for us, enabling us to overcome all challenges today and in the future," wrote Kiska in the telegram.
