Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen paid an official visit to Slovakia on Wednesday, making it the first visit to a Central and Eastern European country since the president took office. His previous foreign tours were heading to the European Union seat - Brussels, and to Switzerland and Germany. In Bratislava, he met with Slovak President Andrej Kiska and Prime Minister Robert Fico for discussions on bilateral negotiations and the future of Europe. Van der Bellen also met with students at Comenius University, and laid a wreath at the Freedom Gate Memorial, located below Devin Castle on the bank of the Morava River. During his visit, he focused on issues in which both countries have differing opinions, such as the use of nuclear power stations.
