The Slovak Minister of Foreign Affairs Miroslav Lajčák held on Wednesday, upon request, talks with the ambassadors of Brazil, India, Japan, and Germany. The discussion focused on the need to ensure progress in the negotiations on the reform of the Security Council that has long been without results.
According to the Ambassadors, the Security Council should be more representative and transparent while improving its ability to act effectively in order to prevent serious crises and military conflicts. Minister Lajčák stressed that Slovakia is actively promoting complex reform of the Security Council. Taking into account the need for equitable geographical distribution in the main UN departments, Slovakia has long been promoting the expansion of the non-permanent membership with one more seat to be allocated for the Eastern European Group of States that has currently only one member in the Security Council.
