The construction of the D3 highway section between Svrčinovec and Skalité was launched on Wednesday in the northern Slovakia region of Kysuce. The new section will be 12 kilometres long; however, the construction will cost €330 million and last three years.
According to the Minister of Transport, Ján Počiatek, because of the natural terrain this is the most difficult part of the entire highway construction, as on the 12 kilometre section 24 bridges and two tunnels have to be built. The D3 highway is a 60kilometre long stretch of highway under construction connecting the northern Slovak capital Žilina with the Polish borders.
