Slovakia praised for economic results in 2016

Representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have highlighted the economic results achieved by Slovakia in 2016, the Finance Ministry's press department has told TASR. The praise mainly concerned developments in terms of the state deficit and debt as well as the reduction in unemployment. At the end of last week, representatives of the Slovak Finance Ministry as well as from the financial sector met with the IMF in Washington. The meeting mainly concerned Slovakia's economic results, plans for the future and the current challenges faced by the Slovak economy. "At the meeting, Slovak Finance Minister Peter Kažimír informed the experts from the IMF about the country's budgetary objectives for the next three years and about prepared measures aimed against tax evasion," said the Finance Ministry's press department, adding that the new action plan aimed at fighting tax evasion is a follow-up to previously adopted measures in this area.
