On Wednesday the European Parliament (EP) approved a regulation to tighten control and certification procedures for medical devices. After the scandal with breast implants from France and unsuitable hip joints from Slovakia, the EU wants to ensure that medical devices will comply with patient safety requirements. At a plenary sitting in Strasbourg, the MEPs also approved laws to tighten up information and ethical requirements for diagnostic medical devices, e.g. for pregnancy or DNA testing.
