Prime Minister wants International Anti-corruption Academy in Slovakia

In a bid to prop up the fight against corruption, Prime Minister Robert Fico wants the Austria-based International Anti-corruption Academy (IACA) to have a presence in Slovakia, TASR learnt after the premier's meeting with IACA dean Martin Kreutner in Bratislava on Wednesday. While the academy would not be involved in investigations, which Fico said would be beyond its jurisdiction, the premier reasoned that having another mechanism of control alongside the prosecutor's offices and the police would be welcome. Among other things, the IACA, which is based near Vienna, could train Slovak civil servants working with EU funds and financial mechanisms. IACA dean Martin Kreutner embraced Slovakia's interest in close ties, adding that the IACA is able to admit participants from Slovakia to its programmes and organise a range of events in Slovakia.
