The Slovak Republic joined 17 international crisis management missions in total last year, according to a report on Slovakia's involvement in international crisis management activities in 2016. Of this, Slovakia joined six missions within the EU's activities and six missions within OSCE. Slovak soldiers also operated in two NATO missions and three missions held under the auspices of the UN. Slovaks took part in missions in Afghanistan, Cyprus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Mali, Haiti, the Golan Heights, Ukraine, Turkmenistan, Moldova and Georgia. The country spent a total of €28.1 million to ensure its participation in international crisis management activities last year. Slovakia intends to continue its contributions with foreign missions this year. Meanwhile, it wants to extend its presence chiefly in Ukraine.
