A London-based police officer has finally been found guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol and subsequently causing a traffic accident 6 years ago, in the eastern Slovak city of Košice. The officer was in Slovakia for a friend’s wedding and according to her words had drunk approximately five glasses of wine before getting behind the wheel of a rented Skoda Fabia car.
The accused, known as Linda Renee H. (41) then failed to give way to an oncoming Skoda Superb at a crossing and the two vehicles collided. No one was injured. The Košice District Court intended to issue the policewoman with a €20,000 fine but the sentence was undeliverable due to the offender leaving Slovakia. After 6 years the court’s patience ran out and a hearing has now ruled Linda H. guilty in absentia of driving under a restricted substance. The accused has since been banned from driving in Slovakia for one year.
