According to Slovak bakers, the future of the bakery industry is compromised. Bread consumption in Slovakia is decreasing and the proportion of Slovak baked goods in stores is very low, when compared to other countries. Young people's interest in the baking profession is also at a historic low. The unfavourable situation in the industry was discussed on Wednesday in Nitra at the general assembly of the Slovak Union of Bakers, Confectioners and Pasta makers. While in 1990 the consumption of bread in Slovakia reached 50 kg per capita per year, in 2015 it fell to 35 kg.
