Bratislava's transport company DP is buying 100 new buses to replace their old fleet that are gradually being phased out of operation. According to a procurement proposal that the company is set to submit for approval to city councillors in November, the total number of new vehicles should include 50 rigid-bodied and 50 articulated buses.
Out of a total of 448 buses in DP's possession as of September, 140 are past their ordinary working life. While 163 new buses have been crossing Bratislava since 2010, there are still 122 buses that are at least 12 years old, said DP's head Ľubomír Belfi. Belfi added that it's impossible to draw EU funding for purchasing the buses. When submitting its proposal for the purchase, the transport company will also field a proposal on taking out a bank loan to this effect.
