Slovakia's experience with Donald Tusk has been excellent; this is why it supported him in the vote for European Council president. As Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico informed, Slovakia preferred to vote for a candidate who understands the region of Central Europe. "However, the vote opened the interesting question of accepting candidates without support from their home country," said the Slovak Prime Minister. The opposition Freedom and Solidarity party welcomed the re-election of Donald Tusk as European Council president on Thursday. The Slovak opposition party claims that under Polish leadership the European Council has recently performed the best among all EU institutions.
