Almost two thirds (63 percent) of Slovaks are in favour of scrapping the amnesties granted in 1998 by prime minister and acting president Vladimir Mečiar concerning the 1995 kidnapping of then president Michal Kováč's son Michal and the thwarted referendum of 1997. This stems from a Focus agency poll published on Wednesday. The same day saw the premiere of the film Únos (Abduction), which deals with the case of the kidnapping of Michal Kováč jr., and the suspected links between crime, mafia, police and politics in the mid-1990s in Slovakia. This first political thriller in the post-revolutionary history of Slovak cinematography was written and directed by Mariana Čengel Solčanská.
